The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it has not discussed automatic tickets for members currently holding elective offices.
The National Secretary of the party, Ikenna Enekweizu, in an interview with Punch, said the matter would be considered at the appropriate time if the need arises.
According to him, the party is currently focused on repositioning itself as an attractive political platform for Nigerians across the country.
Enekweizu said the NDC’s priority was to strengthen its structure and make it acceptable to Nigerians in both the North and South.
He said, “The issue of automatic ticket is a policy of the party that will be discussed if the need arises. It has not come up for mention in our meetings, and this is all I can say now. In the meantime, we are interested in building the party to make it the obvious choice of Nigerians nationwide.”
Naijaonpoint reports that this stand comes days after the exit of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
The NDC, which received Obi and Kwankwaso on Sunday, recorded major gains on Tuesday, adding 17 members of the House of Representatives and one senator.
