ARMED policemen took control of the Wadata Plaza—headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja this morning, ahead of the party’s scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, sparking tension within the party.
Security operatives stationed at the entrance of the NEC hall blocked members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), including Maina Chiroma, from accessing the premises.
According to a former PDP National Secretary, Umar Tsauri, the officers claimed they were acting on “orders from above.”
The BoT members, who were due to hold a separate meeting prior to the expanded caucus session, were forced to disperse after being denied entry.
One party official, who preferred to remain anonymous, told newsmen that the police presence was primarily to obstruct the planned NEC Expanded Caucus Meeting.
Initially, some party staff were allowed into the premises but were later asked to vacate.
Journalists covering the event were also ordered to leave the area. Additionally, Dalaba Street—the access road leading to Wadata Plaza—was cordoned off by security personnel.
The developments have raised concerns over internal party tensions and external interference as the PDP prepares for critical deliberations.
