The Nintendo Switch 2 has had several rumors surrounding everything from the launch date to specs, and the latest rumor suggests that Nintendo may be looking to launch the new console in June. This would put the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 a few months after what has been initially suspected from previous rumors. Most of which have more recently been looking at March or early April.
Nintendo has yet to unveil the console or anything about its exact release date. It has, however, confirmed that it wouldn’t be launching the Switch successor before the end of its next fiscal year. Nintendo’s next fiscal year will end at the end of March 2025. This means it would have been at least April before the console was ready to hit store shelves.
It would have been slightly later than the launch of the Nintendo Switch, but still relatively close to that timeframe. Now with the Switch 2 rumored to come at least two months later, Nintendo’s next console is closer to a late Spring release.
In addition to the launch, the rumor says Nintendo has a Switch 2 event planned for May
Nintendo planning the launch for June probably isn’t what Nintendo fans were hoping for. However, the time difference is only a couple of months. So it’s not like the wait will be another year.
According to Nintenduo, (via the Nate the Hate podcast on YouTube as well as XDA), recent industry chatter has said Nintendo is targeting late May to June for the release of the Switch 2 console. This is a bit of a change from the previous rumors that were targeting a late March or early April release. Nate the Hate says that Nintendo is also planning an event for the Switch 2 console prior to its launch date. The company is planning for this event to take place in May.
The event won’t necessarily be about the console’s reveal though. The rumors don’t mention what the event will be about specifically with regard to the Nintendo Switch 2. So it’s possible that it could be about games and perhaps more general details of the specs.
Nintendo doesn’t necessarily need to launch its next console before June
Nintendo has never really had trouble getting the fans excited for what’s next. So while a June launch is later than most were probably expecting, it likely isn’t going to lessen the excitement.
The company doesn’t necessarily need the launch to happen earlier than June either. The Nintendo Switch has several new games that have been launched over the past few months and there are still more than a few coming in the first few months of next year. The now slightly dated Nintendo Switch has plenty of steam left in it. That’s not even taking into account the special edition models Nintendo has launched within the last year. Some of which may have been purchases from first-time Switch owners.
It would stand to reason that those consumers are still fairly happy with the console. So Nintendo can probably take its time here and get the launch just right.
