DC Studios’ R-rated Batman movie is getting closer than ever to finally becoming a reality in James Gunn’s DC Universe franchise. As the Dark Knight will be reimagined for the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters slate, several of his most famous enemies are also on their way.
The upcoming Clayface film, which has been in production since August 31, 2025, has officially finished principal photography. Tom Rhys Harries announced through his Instagram story that he has wrapped. Check it out below:
The image is taken from what is most likely Harries’ trailer on set, with several mystery clues spotted throughout the photo. Two things that stand out the most are the writings on the table and the wall, respectively.
The bottom text that can be spotted reads, “Go where the chalk-white,” likely a callout to the verse from Shel Silverstein’s “Where The Sidewalk Ends.” The text spotted on the wall reads, “Want in one hand, s–t in the other. See which gets full first.”

The Clayface movie will feature Harry as DC’s Matt Hagen, the famous shapeshifter, who was originally an actor. But after an accident leaves him disfigured, Matt goes through a transformation as a last effort to save his career, which turns him into the famous DC monster.
The film has already teased various Batman connections in the DCU timeline through various set photos and videos, including the Joker. Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella are set to star alongside Harries in prominent roles.
The screenplay was written by Mike Flanagan and became a later addition to DC Studios’ slate, which was initially announced on January 31, 2023, by Gunn and Peter Safran. James Watkins directed the project, which will be the first R-rated film release for the DCU.
With principal photography completed, it might finally mean that the audience is closer to finally getting a teaser, ideally before the end of 2025. Clayface is scheduled to hit theaters on September 11, 2026.
