Christantus Uche’s future has been plunged into uncertainty despite Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attempts to finalise a deal for the Getafe forward, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian, who impressed in his first La Liga campaign with four goals and six assists in 33 matches, looked set to leave Spain after Wolves lodged a €20m offer.

The Premier League side had agreed terms with Getafe, who are under pressure to sell players because of La Liga’s registration restrictions.

Club president Ángel Torres voiced his frustration at being forced into the sale. He told reporters:

“We’re only selling Christantus Uche to Wolves because of La Liga. We have to sell. We’re ruining La Liga by continuously selling. I am forced to sell him, I have no other choice. Tomorrow he undergoes the medical and the deal is signed with Wolves.”

Yet the situation has taken a dramatic turn.

AC Milan entered the race earlier this week, with one of their directors reportedly attending Getafe’s clash against Sevilla to scout Uche.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have also entered the race with the Eagles expressing late interest and testing Wolves’ resolve to push the deal across the line.

Palace are in the market to sign creative attacking midfielders after allowing Eberechi Eze to leave for Arsenal.

Despite those developments, reports in Spain suggest Uche is not entirely convinced about leaving Getafe.

Transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports that talks with Wolves have almost collapsed as the player leans towards staying.

Uche’s agent has also added to the uncertainty as he offered little clarity in a chat with reporters.

When asked about the future of his client, he said:

“Will he stay? We’ll see. He’s a Getafe player, isn’t he? The kid wants to stay, he wants to go… the footballer wants to play everywhere, on the pitch. I spoke with the president today.”

The ambiguity has only deepened speculation.

Uche was spotted leaving the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Wednesday morning, with conflicting claims over whether he skipped training or was preparing for the weekend fixture against Valencia. Footage of him leaving the stadium has circulated in Spanish media.

While Wolves were reported to be preparing a €16m plus €4m package, Getafe have declined to comment further.

Coach José Bordalás has already made his disapproval known, insisting he wants to keep the striker after Uche’s strong start to the new season, which included a goal and assist in a man-of-the-match display against Celta Vigo.

For now, Uche remains a Getafe player.
