Osgood Perkins is one of the most interesting up-and-coming horror filmmakers, with the back-to-back hits of Longlegs and The Monkey. Additionally, Perkins’ latest horror film, Keeper, releases in theaters this Friday (November 14). All the while, he is already developing his next project, titled The Young People, for which the studio has just announced a huge star: Nicole Kidman.
Perkins’ upcoming movie, marking his fourth collaboration with Neon, was previously confirmed to star The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s Lola Tung and How to Train Your Dragon‘s Nico Parker. In addition to Kidman, the ensemble includes Brendan Hines, Cush Jumbo, Heather Graham, Johnny Knoxville, Lexi Minetree, Lily Collias, and Perkins’ frequent collaborator Tatiana Maslany.
The plot for The Young People, which is currently filming in Vancouver, has yet to be officially revealed. We can expect to see the movie sometime late next year or in early 2027, which would put it in competition with one of Kidman’s major upcoming projects. That is, Kidman is confirmed to return alongside Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic 2, which completed production in September 2025.
The beloved 1998 fantasy drama starring the two future A-listers follows a pair of witch sisters cursed to never find lasting love. The sequel’s release date is confirmed to be September 18, 2026. Both The Young People and Practical Magic 2 could benefit from a seasonal release, and Neon may also be aiming for a fall 2026 date.
Kidman is coming off her divisive hit Babygirl, as well as several major TV roles. The Big Little Lies star has been taking on many varied and challenging parts in recent years, often with provocative results. With horror being on the rise this past year, through titles like Weapons and Sinners, Kidman starring in a strict horror movie will be great for her and the genre.
Meanwhile, Perkins’ work has not quite broken into major awards consideration yet, and audiences are waiting to see if Keeper will continue his streak of critically acclaimed horror movies. But working with a star like Kidman is a sign that the A-listers of Hollywood are paying attention to him, while bolstering the cast of The Young People with her Oscar-winning status.
The Young People is being produced by Perkins and his partner Chris Ferguson through their production company Phobos, as well as Brian Kavanaugh-Jones for Range. The biggest fans of Perkins’ movies should be excited for this news about Nicole Kidman, showing that the director’s movies can attract veteran talent as well as the biggest rising stars.
