The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerians living abroad to promote the country’s positive image by celebrating its achievements rather than focusing solely on its challenges.
Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal during separate visits to two prominent Nigerians in the United Kingdom — Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rosaline Oguro, the Mayor of London Borough of Islington, a statement said on Monday.
She described Adegoke’s emergence as the first person from an ethnic minority background to chair Nottinghamshire County Council since its establishment in 1889 as a testament to the excellence, resilience, and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora.
During the visit, Mayor Oguro thanked the NiDCOM boss and encouraged Nigerians across the world to continue projecting the country’s good image wherever they reside.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of two Nigerian medical graduates. Dorcas Akanbi graduated from Rostov State Medical University with an impressive CGPA of 4.90 out of 5.00, while Monilola Adeshina emerged as the valedictorian and best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at Medical University of Silesia.
According to her, the accomplishments of the four Nigerians reflect the brilliance, determination, and global competitiveness of Nigerian citizens, particularly the youth, while enhancing the country’s reputation internationally.
She commended them for making Nigeria proud and urged other Nigerians in the diaspora to pursue excellence and remain worthy ambassadors of the nation.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that although every country faces challenges, Nigerians should intentionally celebrate success stories and the positive contributions of fellow citizens around the world.
She added that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and national development.
The NiDCOM boss also urged Nigerians abroad to contribute to the country’s progress through their expertise, investments, skills, and global networks.
She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to recognising and engaging outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora whose achievements continue to project the country’s image positively on the global stage.
