THE Nigerian Police Force has attributed the recent explosion in Niger State to the unauthorized storage of explosives.

Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Shawulu Danmamman, labelled the dynamite explosion in the Sabon Pegi community of Mashegu Local Government Area as unfortunate.

The explosion resulted from the indiscriminate stockpiling of dynamite in residential areas, which the community reportedly concealed.

CP Danmamman echoed comments made by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on Monday.

Alake indicated that preliminary investigations revealed the explosion at a mining site in Sabon Pegi was caused by the illegal stockpiling of explosives by a local resident, Yushua Maikampala.

Maikampala is believed to have been involved in the purchase and storage of explosives and their components in a house in Sabon Pegi.

Additionally, CP Danmamman stressed the importance of public cooperation in preventing such incidents. He urged the community to report any suspicious movements or activities, emphasizing that such vigilance is crucial in avoiding future occurrences.
