The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maitama Yusuf Tuggar, has said Nigeria and China share a long-standing diplomatic relationship built on mutual respect for the two nations.
Tuggar said the diplomatic visit of China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, was to consolidate the foundation of the two countries diplomatic ties.
In a series of tweets on his X handle, on the strategic meeting with his Chinese Counterpart, Yi; Tuggar stated that their discussion centered on trade, capacity building and people-to-people-oriented exchanges.
“Nigeria and China share a long-standing partnership rooted in mutual respect, trust, and shared aspirations for peace, stability, and prosperity. We will build on this foundation.
“We discussed advancing collaboration in trade, capacity building, and people-to-people exchanges while reaffirming Nigeria’s support for the One-China Principle and our commitment to shared global priorities.
“I highlighted the success of past high-level engagements, including President Tinubu’s state visit to China, during which key MoUs were signed. These agreements are progressing and continue to strengthen our bilateral ties,” he stated.
Naijaonpoint reported that Wang Yi in his address described Nigeria as an irreplaceable voice in Africa on global issues.
Disclosing that his visit to Nigeria was his first in 2025, Yi, explained that his visit was to kick off the implementation of agreements reached with the country during the 2024 Forum on China and Africa Cooperation.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his effort in making the last FOCAC session a success.
