A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has said the persistent wave of insecurity across the country indicates that Nigeria currently lacks effective governance.
Abdullahi, who serves as the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, made the assertion while reacting to a 2014 tweet by President Bola Tinubu, in which the then-opposition figure criticised the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan over insecurity.
Naijaonpoint reports that in the old tweet dated September 9, 2014, Tinubu had written, “The festering Boko Haram attacks on the North East and massacre of innocent citizens is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
At the time, Tinubu was a leading opposition voice and frequently criticised Jonathan’s handling of security challenges.
Responding to the resurfaced tweet, Abdullahi argued that the current spate of violence and killings across parts of the country shows that the same situation persists.
He wrote on his 𝕏 handle, “The festering insecurity and violent attacks in Kwara, Katsina and other parts of the country, and massacre of innocent Nigerians is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
Naijaonpoint reports that Abdullahi’s remarks come amid renewed insecurity in several states, including Kwara and Katsina, where many residents have been killed or abducted by armed groups in recent weeks.
Reports indicate that at least 75 residents were buried last Wednesday following a deadly attack on the Woro community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The following day, 13 more bodies were interred as locals continued to recover corpses from surrounding bushes, while several persons remain missing from the incident that has shocked many Nigerians.
The ADC chieftain’s comments have since generated heated reactions on social media, with some users supporting his position and others defending the current administration.
