Nigeria and Indonesia have discussed plans to deepen bilateral cooperation in oil and gas, energy security, critical minerals and other strategic sectors.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this on Tuesday after receiving Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Arief Havas Oegroseno, and his delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
According to Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to review their longstanding relations and explore areas for stronger cooperation.
She said the discussions covered oil and gas, energy security, critical minerals development, agriculture, manufacturing, technical cooperation and educational exchanges.
The two countries also discussed cooperation in counter-terrorism, de-radicalisation, intelligence sharing and maritime security.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu said Nigeria and Indonesia reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, promoting mutual understanding and strengthening collaboration on issues of global significance at the multilateral level.
The meeting comes as both countries seek to expand cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic relations into strategic economic and security sectors.
Oegroseno has served as Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2024 under President Prabowo Subianto.
Nigeria and Indonesia have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations, with both governments expressing interest in translating the relationship into greater economic and development cooperation.
