THE Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has stated that Nigeria will need an investment of $3 trillion over the next 30 years to address the nation’s infrastructure deficit, particularly in areas such as road networks, power supply, housing, healthcare, and education.
Abbas, represented by his deputy, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, highlighted the increasing infrastructure demands facing the country at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of an access road from Ring Road1 to Judges’ Quarters in the Katampe District of Abuja.
He pointed out that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is experiencing even more significant challenges, with its population growing at an annual rate of5%, which is adding pressure on existing resources.
Abbas commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its focus on infrastructure development.
He also assured that the National Assembly is dedicated to enacting legislation that will enhance the governance of the FCT and approving budgets that will facilitate impactful infrastructure projects, including the ongoing road construction.
The FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, expressed his appreciation to the National Assembly for its unwavering support of the FCT Administration and for its prompt approval of appropriation acts for the territory.
Wike further promised that the access road to the Judges’ Quarters, along with additional internal roads, would be completed by May of next year to coincide with President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.
He also guaranteed that the contractor would receive sufficient funding to ensure the timely completion of the project.
