THE Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, hashighlighted a decline in the performance of female students in examinations.
He made this observation at the conclusion of a technical and vocational education training camp for girls in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state.
Although he did not specify the reasons for the decline, the minister emphasized that the camp would spark female students’ interest in skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
Mamman encouraged the students to remain committed to their studies.
He further noted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is focused on producing students equipped with both academic qualifications and practical skills.
Mamman reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing knowledge and skill-based education for Nigerian youths, which he believes is key to driving the nation’s economic and industrial growth.
The two-week programme, themed “Painting for the Future,” hosted 290 students from 29 federal science technical colleges.
Addressing the participants, Mamman stated that the camp aimed to foster innovation, creativity, and healthy competition among female students.
He also commended the African Development Bank for collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Education on the initiative.
In her remarks, Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebet, lauded the programme as timely and well-conceived.
She urged participants to take the lessons seriously and use them to enhance their future prospects.
