Nigeria and Serbia have moved to deepen their longstanding diplomatic relationship following the presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Serbia, Engr. Abasi Ogwime Braimah.

Braimah presented his credentials to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, formally taking up his assignment as Nigeria’s Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Serbia, with residence in Budapest, Hungary.

The accreditation comes as both countries seek to build on more than six decades of diplomatic relations and expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.

During the ceremony, Braimah conveyed the greetings of the Nigerian government and people to Vučić, as well as to the Serbian government and citizens.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining the cordial relationship between both countries while pursuing stronger partnerships capable of producing practical benefits for their populations.

The ambassador identified political and diplomatic engagement, trade, investment, economic cooperation, education and culture as key areas where Nigeria and Serbia could expand their existing collaboration.

He also expressed his readiness to engage with the Serbian government, diplomatic representatives, businesses and other stakeholders to identify new opportunities and strengthen ongoing partnerships.

The new diplomatic assignment comes at a time when countries are increasingly seeking stronger bilateral relationships to respond to changing global economic and political realities.

For Nigeria and Serbia, the renewed engagement is expected to create opportunities for increased economic interaction, institutional partnerships and closer people-to-people relations.

Braimah’s accreditation therefore signals a fresh phase in Nigeria-Serbia relations, with greater emphasis expected on economic diplomacy, sustained dialogue and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Both countries are expected to leverage their historic friendship to develop new partnerships and advance shared national interests in the years ahead.
