Nigeria Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu is poised to take on a new challenge off the field, that of mentoring highly-rated Nigerian youngster Isaiah Chinedu, Soccernet.ng reports.

Isaiah Chinedu has just completed a move to Czech champions Slavia Prague from Right2Win Sports Club, one of Nigeria’s fast-growing academies.

Igoh Ogbu, who joined Slavia from Norwegian side Lillestrøm in 2023, has become an integral figure in the Czech club’s recent success.

Known for his commanding presence and uncompromising defending, the 25-year-old centre-back helped Slavia lift the Czech Cup in 2023 and played a pivotal role as they reclaimed the Czech First League title this year, their first since 2021.

Beyond his solid defensive displays, Ogbu has emerged as a respected leader in the dressing room. His influence will now extend to supporting fellow Nigerians, particularly 18-year-old Chinedu, who is stepping into European football for the first time. Ogbu’s guidance will be invaluable in helping the teenager adapt both on and off the pitch.

Nigeria and Right2Win star Chinedu gets big European break

Right2Win Sports Club confirmed the transfer of Chinedu to Slavia Prague on Saturday via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, calling it ‘a proud moment for the player and the academy.’

“We are delighted to announce that Isaiah Chinedu has completed a move to Slavia Prague on a five-year deal from Right2Win,” the statement read.

“The talented right wing-back now embarks on an exciting new chapter in his career, and we are incredibly proud of his journey and progress.”

Chinedu’s transfer continues an emerging partnership between Right2Win and Slavia Prague, following the move of attacking midfielder Mubarak Emmanuel Suleiman earlier in September.

The academy has also been behind several successful international transfers, including Ndubuisi Moses Okeke to Slovak top-flight side FK Železiarne Podbrezová and Ogbonna Stanley Chizurum to French club Strasbourg (BlueCo).

For Chinedu, joining Slavia offers a priceless opportunity to develop in a competitive European environment alongside his compatriots Ogbu and David Moses, the latter having recently made his UEFA Champions League debut for the Prague giants.

With Ogbu serving as a mentor and Slavia known for nurturing young talent, Chinedu’s move is a major milestone for the player and Nigeria’s new generation of exportable football talent.

Both Ogbu and Moses missed out on a Super Eagles call-up ahead of Nigeria’s crucial World Cup playoff against Gabon, the latter because of an injury.
