Nigerian Military: ‘They Put Their Lives On The Line’ – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu 1

President Bola Tinubu has praised officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering sacrifices, insisting that their courage in confronting insecurity demands the backing of all Nigerians.

Naijaonpoint reports that Tinubu spoke on Wednesday at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference in Abuja, where he urged citizens to recognise and support the troops who “put their lives on the line” to defend the nation.

The President acknowledged the persistent security challenges facing the country, ranging from terrorism to banditry, but stressed that the government would not relent in addressing them.

Tinubu said, “Yes, we are challenged by terrorism, banditry and others. We recognise that.

“Are we doing something about it? Are we inspiring the armed forces? Are we encouraging them to fight?

“They put their lives on the line to defend the sovereignty of this country. It is our responsibility.”

Tinubu said strengthening national security structures and boosting the morale of security personnel remained major priorities for his administration.

The President’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over attacks by terrorists and bandits in several parts of the country, with citizens and stakeholders mounting pressure on the Federal Government to curb the spate of killings.

Earlier this month, United States President, Donald Trump had described the attacks in Nigeria as a “mass slaughter”, warning that Christianity faces an existential threat in the country.

Trump said the US “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” a comment that triggered diplomatic reactions from Nigeria.

In its reaction, the Federal Government urged President Trump to adopt a more measured approach in assessing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Government officials insisted that progress has been made, particularly in the North-East, where several towns previously occupied by Boko Haram have been reclaimed.

Last Thursday, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and intensifying the fight against terrorism and organised crime.

“The task ahead is immense. But we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, to defeat terrorism and build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria,” he said.
