The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives has expressed concern over the worsening economic hardship in the country, warning that many Nigerians are groaning under hunger, and some are even resorting to suicide.
Naijaonpoint reports that the caucus leader, Fred Agbedi, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, calling on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the economic challenges confronting citizens.
Agbedi lamented that the government’s failure to tackle hardship had pushed ordinary citizens to the brink.
“There’s a lot of hardship in this country, and Nigerians are groaning in pain daily. People are committing suicide because the government is not paying attention to them,” he said.
He urged the President to shift his focus towards domestic issues instead of travelling abroad while Nigerians struggle to survive.
“Nigerians are groaning, Mr. President, ensure that you pay attention to the sufferings of Nigeria,” Agbedi added.
PDP Reps Frown at Killings
The caucus also condemned the spate of killings across the country, faulting Tinubu’s absence from bereaved communities.
“We can imagine a situation where Nigerians are killed and Mr. President is far away in Brazil and other countries,” Agbedi stated.
He listed Imo, Katsina, Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and Borno as states where insecurity has continued to claim lives, insisting that the government must prioritise the safety of its citizens.
Agbedi stressed that the Federal Government must act quickly to restore hope to Nigerians by tackling hunger and insecurity head-on.
According to him, the rising cost of living, coupled with the daily killings in several states, has created a climate of despair that requires urgent presidential intervention.
