The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Shipping and Marine Services Limited says its vessels are manned 85 per cent by Nigerians.
The managing director of NMSL, Mr Abdulkareem Ahmed, stated this while addressing journalists on Monday during the unveiling of the company’s new logo.
He said that the company targets to ensure that at every time, “we have a full complement of staff to man our vessels that are Nigerian, 100 per cent.”
Ahmed stressed that because the company is international in the sense that its services are international, there is a need for cultural exchanges.
He said, “Therefore, what we’ve done is to keep that target at 85 per cent. Now, we have attained 85 per cent, as we mentioned a few years ago, we currently have a full complement to be able to man our vessels with Nigerians.”
According to him, the vision has always been coming front and centre when it comes to Nigeria.
“But as we always said, within that vision and purpose, it’s about that element of ensuring international standards when it comes to shipping and marine services. For those who have heard me speak in the past, I have always said this,” he said.
According to him, there is nothing like a local standard and a Nigerian standard when it comes to shipping and marine services.
“What you have are global standards, and for us in NSML, we are a Nigerian company,” he said.
Ahmed pointed out that NMSL would continue to be a Nigerian company, ensuring that they provide shipping and marine services that meet global standards.
He said the company is 100 per cent committed to the Nigerian Ship Registry, which he said is quite topical.
Ahmed admitted that the element of ship registry takes a lot of effort across the entire industry and all stakeholders, from regulators to operators like NMSL and other partners.
“One of the things we are doing as NSML is supporting NIMASA to be able to put in place the necessary framework for the acceptability of that registry. It goes beyond just simply registering vessels on the registry. The whole essence of a registry is that you want that registry to be acceptable internationally such that vessels registered on that registry can actually traverse the world and be accepted,” he stated.
Ahmed highlighted that the rebranding process is not just a change of logo but also a change of commitment that reflects growth and leadership.
“We are sticking our necks out; we are standing strong and upfront, stating clearly, This is who we are,” he said.
According to him, the company is focusing on excellence and safety, saying, “We are focusing on innovation, ensuring that we would and shall continue to be an enabler and a partner towards the sustainable delivery of energy services globally,” the NMSL MD said.
