The Federal Government has launched an ambitious plan to generate at least $100 billion and create over two million jobs annually from Nigeria’s creative economy. Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, unveiled the 8-Point Plan and Roadmap at a roundtable event for local and international investors.
The plan aims to grow the arts, culture, and creative economy under one united vision, with initiatives such as skills development, policy frameworks, strategic partnerships, and cultural heritage preservation. Musawa noted that despite Nigeria’s huge potential, the creative industry currently contributes just $5 billion to the economy.
The Minister identified 14 pivotal initiatives to drive the sector’s growth, grouped under four pillars: Technology, Infrastructure and Funding, International Culture Promotion, and Intellectual Property Monetisation. These initiatives include launching digital content creation tools, expanding internet accessibility, and establishing a culture promotion office to boost creative output exports.
Musawa revealed that the Ministry has already created several initiatives and entered collaborations to achieve its goals, including a partnership with BigWin Philanthropy to deliver a transformative capacity-building and job creation strategy. With the potential to grow by 400 percent by 2027, Nigeria’s creative economy is poised for significant growth and development.
