The National Identity Management Commission has announced that it will commence ward-level registration for the National Identification Number from February 16, 2026.
The Commission said the exercise is in line with a presidential directive to take NIN registration to communities across the country.
In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, PhD, NIMC said the nationwide exercise is aimed at capturing all Nigerian citizens and legal residents, including children and adults, in the National Identity Database.
It added that the enrollment will be conducted free of charge in furtherance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
According to the Commission, the ward-level initiative will deepen identity inclusion, decentralise services, and reduce the burden of travel for applicants.
The agency said the move would also promote nationwide participation in the NIN registration process.
NIMC urged Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity.
It disclosed that it has begun sensitisation and stakeholder engagement at national, state, and local government levels.
The Commission said traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organisations are being consulted to ensure seamless registration.
Members of the public were encouraged to register their children, parents, and family members within their communities.
NIMC said schedules for the exercise are available on its website, www.nimc.gov.ng.
