The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted varying weather conditions across the country between Monday and Wednesday, warning residents to stay alert to possible flooding in some areas.
In its outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said slight dust haze with good visibility would dominate Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States on Monday.
It added that isolated thunderstorms with light rain were expected in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States during the afternoon or evening hours.
For the central region, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms and light rain in the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi States later in the day.
In the south, cloudy skies are expected in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and light rains over Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the afternoon and evening, moderate rainfall is anticipated in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet projected a continuation of slight dust haze over the northern states, while Taraba and Adamawa may experience isolated thunderstorms and rain.
The central region is expected to have sunny skies with intermittent clouds, with chances of early morning thunderstorms in Benue, and later moderate rains in the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.
Southern states will see cloudy skies in the morning, with rainfall expected to intensify over Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom later in the day.
The agency also warned of possible flooding in parts of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River States, urging local authorities to activate emergency response measures.
For Wednesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies across the north, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains likely later in the day, particularly over Taraba State.
The central region will witness sunny skies with patches of clouds, alongside thunderstorms and light rain in Kogi and the FCT.
In the south, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet advised people with asthma and respiratory conditions to reduce outdoor exposure, citing suspended dust particles over the northern axis.
The agency also urged motorists to drive cautiously in rainy conditions and called on authorities in flood-prone areas to implement emergency measures immediately.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for flight planning, while the public was encouraged to follow updates via the agency’s official platforms
