As I mentioned Nintendo LiveA Twitter user named Tee posted a video, which they claimed was accidentally uploaded to the official Nintendo of America YouTube channel and subsequently unlisted, announcing the return of Nintendo Switch game coupons for Switch owners in North America.
Although manufacturing is always a possibility, the video is efficiently edited and has a distinct Nintendo Direct style. Regardless, even if it’s real, there’s no way to know when Nintendo originally planned to upload this video, and therefore when this feature is set to go live. Nintendo Switch game vouchers have been a feature available to online console membership members, and as the following video demonstrates, they allow users to get two games at a discount.
Coupons are sold in pairs for $99.98, and each coupon will get you one full price game, so you’ll save approximately $20.00. You can only retrieve games from a pre-selected list, unfortunately. However, according to the video, Nintendo will be adding some of their biggest first-party titles, including some fairly recent ones.
Pokemon Scarlett & Violet, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will all be redeemable. A voiceover in the video states that coupons can also be used to pre-order select games. Two yet-to-be-released Nintendo games, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Bayonetta Origins: Syriza and the Lost Devil, are seen in the back graphic.
Nintendo’s first-party games, Zelda and Pokemon, are notorious for not permanently lowering their retail value, and always staying at full price, except for the occasional sale. So, if you’re a recent Switch owner looking to take advantage of the console’s robust back catalog of titles, this Voucher system is definitely worth a try. Many are, of course, hoping that Nintendo’s most anticipated game of the year, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, will be included in this coupon system, though, at this point, all we can do is wait and see.
The coupon system is currently available for regions outside the US, such as Europe, and it is, in fact I was Available in the US before but canceled in 2019 for unknown reasons. Fans are celebrating this trailer and hope the feature gets confirmed soon, as it’s an easy way to save money if you’re already an avid Nintendo consumer.
