Lawmakers of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives have debunked reports suggesting they are preparing to defect to other political parties, insisting they remain firmly committed to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement.
The 13 lawmakers, all from Kano State, stated this during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, led by Hon. Garba Diso.
Naijaonpoint reports that their rebuttal followed the formal defection of two NNPP lawmakers, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during plenary on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
The move sparked speculation that more NNPP legislators, especially those aligned with the Kwankwasiya ideology, were planning to follow suit.
But addressing the media, Diso described the reports as mischievous and baseless.
“We wish to categorically debunk these unfounded rumours and urge the general public, our supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard such misleading claims,” he said.
He said those behind the rumour were political detractors unsettled by the NNPP’s rising influence and internal cohesion.
“These rumours are the handiwork of those threatened by the growing influence, unity, and resilience of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya family, particularly in Kano State and across Nigeria,” he added.
Diso also clarified that their interactions with members of other political parties should not be interpreted as betrayal or an intention to defect.
“Our interactions with members of other political parties should not be misconstrued as disloyalty or an indication of defection. Rather, it reflects our commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at advancing good governance, national unity, and progress for all Nigerians,” he said.
He stressed that the group remains fully aligned with the party’s values and the Kwankwasiya philosophy championed by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“We remain steadfast in our allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya ideology, which stands for justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centred governance. No amount of misinformation or propaganda will shake our faith in the movement or in the leadership,” he stated.
Diso noted that the lawmakers remain united in their resolve to serve the people of Kano State through the platform of the NNPP.
“We stand firm, united, and loyal to the NNPP, to the Kwankwasiya Movement, and to the people we serve,” he said.
The NNPP has faced increased political realignments in recent months, but the Kwankwasiya-dominated caucus insists it remains intact and unshaken.
