No price hike for YouTube TV, Google clarifies Verizon Ad confusion

Google says YouTube TV won’t hike prices, despite what the Verizon ad said. The ad promoted YouTube TV for $82.99/month, which caused some confusion. People thought YouTube TV was going to hike prices. But Google quickly clarified that was an error and the $72.99/month price would stay the same for now.

Verizon’s promotion and the confusion over the $82.99 YouTube TV price

Confusion over YouTube TV’s price started when a Verizon promo listed $82.99 for the service. YouTuber Michael Saves came across a Verizon ad on Facebook about the discount. The promo offered Verizon customers $10 off each month of their first year of YouTube TV, but after that, the price would go back to the “current price of $82.99/month.” So people thought YouTube TV was going to hike the price and were confused about the future of the service.

Now, replying to Michael Saves’s post on X, Google (via @TeamYouTube) clarified, “We’re aware that Verizon has published an advertisement with the incorrect price for the YouTubeTV Base Plan. We’re working with Verizon to have this issue resolved.”

Finally, the Verizon ad confusion has been cleared up and users can continue to enjoy their service without worrying about paying more for now.

YouTube TV used to be much cheaper

Since its launch, YouTube TV has had several price hikes. When it first launched, it was $34.99/month and was a great and affordable alternative to traditional cable TV. But over time, the price went up, and the last big hike was in 2023, when it hit $72.99/month. Despite the higher cost, many people still choose YouTube TV.

YouTube TV offers two main plans: the Base Plan and the Spanish Plan. The Base Plan costs $72.99/month (after a 7-day trial period) and has over 100 live TV channels, including popular cable channels, local networks, and sports networks. It also has unlimited cloud DVR to record and save your favorite shows. It supports six accounts per membership so that multiple family members can use the service and three devices at a time.

The Spanish Plan costs $34.99/month and has 50+ Spanish language channels, including popular networks and sports networks. It also has unlimited cloud DVR for Spanish language content and supports three accounts per membership and two devices at a time.
