The 19 Northern State Governors will on Saturday, November 29, converge on Kaduna State for a crucial meeting aimed at addressing the worsening security situation across the region.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Nasarawa State Governor, Peter Ahemba, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with Daily Trust on Friday.
Ahemba explained that the meeting would have in attendance prominent traditional rulers, who are expected to offer strategic input as key custodians of grassroots security intelligence.
“The meeting aims to develop a unified approach to tackling security concerns affecting the region and discuss the way forward on security matters,” he said.
The governor’s aide expressed confidence that far-reaching resolutions would emerge from the gathering.
He said the Nasarawa State Government had already convened an emergency security meeting ahead of the regional summit to forestall possible breaches.
“Due to the security challenges in some northern states, the Nasarawa State Government has taken proactive measures by organizing an emergency security meeting, where decisive decisions will be made to prevent any breach of security in the state,” he added.
Ahemba appealed to residents to complement government efforts by giving timely information to security operatives.
“It is the duty of citizens to help deal with security threats in our country and state. Therefore, citizens must do well by providing security agencies with relevant information about individuals with criminal tendencies,” he said.
The meeting comes as northern states continue to battle rising bandit attacks, mass abductions, and communal clashes, prompting renewed calls for coordinated regional action.
