The Norwegian authorities have announced that the country has decided to introduce a new round of sanctions against Russia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, the decision of the country to introduce a new package of sanctions for Russia was taken in line with the EU’s adoption of new measures that took place on December 16, 2022, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The Ministry explains that the new sanctions package includes restrictions on goods as well as on services important to Russia. Moreover, the same points out that the restrictions also target Russia’s ability to finance the war in Ukraine.
Commenting on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anniken Huitfeldt, said that Norway will continue to keep measures in place as long as it is necessary.
“It is absolutely necessary to react against Russia’s brutal warfare in Ukraine. Norway, therefore, continues to stand together with the EU on stronger sanctions against Russia,” the statement of Minister Huitfeldt reads.
In line with the newly made changes, Norway has added an additional 149 individuals as well as 49 entities to its sanctions list. All persons who are added to the sanctions list are prohibited from entering the country. Furthermore, state-owned companies are prohibited from participating in transactions for those part of the sanctions list.
Apart from banning entry for some individuals, the Norwegian authorities said that they have also introduced new export restrictions.
“The possibilities for conducting trade with Russia are now particularly limited and involve a high risk,” Minister Huitfeldt stressed.
Norway has decided to no longer export goods and technology that can contribute to the improvement of the technological capacity of Russia. The same has also decided to extend the prohibition against investments in the energy sector.
In addition to the above-mentioned, Norway has also prohibited the export of equipment used in the aviation industry.
Apart from Norway, the European Union countries also continue to keep sanctions against Russia in place.
Previously, SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that the Council of the EU has adopted a decision on the non-acceptance of Russian travel documents issued in Ukraine as well as in Georgia.
The Council said that all Russian travel documents issued in Ukrainian and Georgian regions/territories that have been occupied by Russia will no longer be accepted for travel purposes. Moreover, it was highlighted that these documents will also not be accepted when applying for a visa.
According to the Council, the decision to no longer accept such documents is a response to the unjustified Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
