As anticipation builds for Nigeria’s clash in the 2024 WAFCON final, Francisca Ordega’s emotional message on X has sparked mixed reactions among Super Falcons fans, Footynaija.com reports.

The experienced forward, who was forced out of the tournament due to injury, shared a heartfelt post just hours before the showdown, and the timing has not gone down well with everyone.

Ordega, 31, featured in Nigeria’s group game against Algeria but suffered an injury which sidelined her early in the tournament. While many fans have sympathised with her absence, others feel the Al-Ittihad forward’s message should have waited until after the final match, set to be a high-pressure contest for the African crown.

The controversy began after Ordega posted on her X handle:

“Injured? Yes. Sad? Yes. But one thing for sure. Giving up is not an option… Will be back stronger and better.”

Though heartfelt and inspiring, ... has been seen by some as an untimely distraction.

One fan replied under ... saying:

“Get well soon. This update is not necessary on the eve of a final match. We don’t need any distractions. Good luck to you all.”

Supporters remain divided. While some fans accused critics of overreacting, others questioned the decision to post such a personal update just before the team’s biggest match of the tournament. Several users defended Ordega, noting that her message came from a place of pain and passion, and should not be misinterpreted.

The Super Falcons are currently chasing a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, and are set to face host Morocco in the final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday.
