The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Congress (PDP) has eulogised former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on the occasion of his birthday.
Naijaonpoint reports that the PDP, in a statement on Thursday, described Obasanjo as a great believer in democracy and a statesman of historic significance.
The statement read, “We celebrate a great believer in democracy and a statesman of historic significance. The first Military Head of State to voluntarily hand over power to a democratically elected administration.
“As the pioneer presidential candidate of our party and the first President of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, you played a pivotal role in consolidating democracy and stabilizing our republic at a critical moment in our national history.
“On this special occasion, we celebrate your service to the nation and wish you continued good health and a very happy birthday.”
Recall that Obasanjo was the first Presidential candidate of the PDP at its inception in 1998, serving two terms under the platform till 2007.
Meanwhile, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has described Obasanjo on his 89th birthday as a “living manuscript of the Nigerian story.”
Saraki, in a message shared on his 𝕏 account on Thursday, praised Obasanjo’s enduring influence in Nigeria’s political and national development, noting that his life reflects the country’s historical journey.
In his birthday tribute, the former Senate President said the life and legacy of Obasanjo remain deeply intertwined with Nigeria’s history.
