‘Obiano Not Dead’ – Ex-Commissioner Debunks Rumoured Death

Willie Obiano

Former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, has dismissed social media reports claiming that former Governor Willie Obiano has died in London.

Naijaonpoint reports that rumours had emerged suggesting that Obiano, who governed Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, had passed away after a reported illness.

Speaking in a telephone interview with The PUNCH, Adinuba described the claims as “provocative” and “unfounded.”

He insisted that the former governor is “alive, strong and with his family in Houston, United States.”

He said: “I have been asked some probing questions by journalists and heard a provocative rumour about the death of former Governor Willie Obiano. The rumour is not true.

“I just spoke with the former governor and members of his family a few minutes ago. He is hale and hearty in Houston, United States, where he resides.”

Adinuba stressed that Obiano had neither travelled to London nor been hospitalised, urging the public to disregard the “fake report.”

Obiano’s personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, also told The PUNCH that he had received no confirmation suggesting the former governor had died.

“I can’t confirm this; I am not aware of such news,” he said.

Obiano, born on August 8, 1955, hails from Aguleri in Anambra East LGA and handed over to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in March 2022.

He is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of N4bn during his tenure.
