Okpebholo Nominates New Edo Civil Service Commission Members

The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the nomination of five persons to serve as members of the Edo State Civil Service Commission.

Naijaonpoint reports that the announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

According to the statement, the nominees are:

Oko-Ose Samuel Ozemhonyelea, mni – Chairman
Deborah O. Enakhimion – Member
Mrs. Monica Igbadumhe – Member
Elder David Ovbiosa Odaro (JP) – Member
Isikpe Irene Kadiri – Member

Ikhilor disclosed that the names have been forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.

“The aforementioned names will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation,” the statement read.

The move comes as part of the governor’s efforts to strengthen the civil service and reposition it for effective service delivery.

If confirmed, the new commission will be responsible for overseeing recruitment, promotions, and discipline in the state civil service.

In other news, the Katsina State Government has stopped the salaries of 100 teachers who abandoned their duty posts without giving any reason.

Naijaonpoint reports that the decision was confirmed in Katsina on Wednesday during the unveiling of a joint education sector coordination committee, organised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in partnership with UNICEF.

The committee is expected to guide policy formulation, planning, and resource mobilisation for the education sector in the state.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musawa, expressed concern over the growing attitude of teachers neglecting their responsibilities.

She said that during her visits to about 20 schools, she could not find up to 60 per cent of teachers on duty.

She also revealed cases where teachers relocated to other states while still receiving salaries from Katsina, with some staying away from classrooms for as long as two years.

She explained that the ministry had taken steps by withholding the salaries of over 100 teachers who failed to report for work, stressing that many of them were already appealing for payment after losing their July, August, and September earnings.

The new committee, which will be chaired by the commissioner, is tasked with promoting accountability, transparency, and effective education service delivery.
