Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has commended the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, for his instrumental role in Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.
Highlighting a key achievement under Olukoyede’s leadership, Akume said the EFCC’s reforms played a major role in Nigeria’s removal from the FATF grey list in October 2025.
Akume gave the commendation on Sunday while presenting Olukoyede with the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS), held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
The award, organised by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in collaboration with The Best Strategic Media, was conferred on 44 outstanding public servants, including five state governors, ministers, and heads of MDAs.
According to Akume, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, the NEAPS awards were designed to recognise public officers whose exceptional service has contributed to national transformation.
“The awards are instituted to recognise excellent service delivery by public office holders towards the transformation of the country,” Akume said.
He noted that Olukoyede’s recognition was based on his exceptional performance in strengthening the anti-corruption mandate of the EFCC.
“Only exceptional 44 chief executives across all appointees and governors were selected,” Akume said, stressing that Olukoyede’s work directly contributed to enhancing Nigeria’s financial transparency and global compliance.
Under Olukoyede’s leadership, the EFCC has recorded recoveries running into hundreds of billions of naira, intensified anti-money laundering efforts, and pursued high-impact investigations leading to the tracing and recovery of significant assets.
His administration also implemented internal reforms aimed at improving the operational efficiency and credibility of the Commission.
The high-profile event attracted state governors, federal ministers, heads of agencies, private sector leaders, and other top government officials, who gathered to celebrate excellence in public service.
