THE Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 2024 governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajayi formally rejoined the ruling party yesterday at his hometown of Kiribo, Apoi Ward 2, in Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Ajayi had resigned from the APC in June 2020 and defected to the PDP, citing irreconcilable differences with the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, under whom he served as deputy governor.
Speaking in Igbekebo, the headquarters of Ese Odo Local Government Area, Ajayi pledged his full support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s “EASE” agenda as well as President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described his decision to return to the APC as a move back to his original political base, noting that it would allow him to contribute more actively to the party’s activities and the state’s development.
According to Ajayi, political disagreements, campaigns, and propaganda are often inevitable, but they should not overshadow the broader national interest.
He said that despite contesting against Governor Aiyedatiwa during the last election, both leaders have since resolved their differences in the interest of the state and the country.
Ajayi also commended President Tinubu for what he described as bold reforms and policy decisions, adding that the foundations laid by the administration would shape Nigeria’s future development.
