AT least four people sustained injuries today following the collapse of a storey building under construction along Oyemekun Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The victims were said to be construction workers on the site when a section of the building suddenly gave way in the evening while work was ongoing.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred without warning, noting that a loud noise was heard moments before dust engulfed the area.
According to NAIJAONPOINT , sympathisers and passersby quickly moved in to rescue the trapped workers, who were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sunday Olajide, said the government had commenced investigations to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the collapse.
Olajide cautioned developers across the state against the use of substandard construction materials, stressing the need to prioritise safety in building projects.
He added that the construction site had been sealed pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said he was yet to receive full details of the incident at the time of filing the report, assuring that he would provide updates once information became available.
