The Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has assured the people of the state that his administration would continue work on the proposed Deep Seaport project in Ilaje Local Government Area.
Aiyedatiwa, who is the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16 gubernatorial election in the state, gave the assurance on Thursday during his campaign in Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The seaport project was conceived by the late Governor Olusegun Agagu but the agitations for its approval by the Federal Government were spearheaded by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The Federal Executive Council approved the operating licence for the seaport in May 2023 at a meeting presided over by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also promised to ensure the establishment of an airstrip in Okitipupa Local Government Area to make it easier for investors to access the southern region of the state.
The governor said his administration had already approved a 20-kilometre road construction project in the southern senatorial district to enhance connectivity.
He commended the late Agagu for laying a good foundation for the infrastructural development of the region and pledged to build on the achievements of the former governor especially in the area of road development.
Aiyedatiwa appealed to the people of the area to come out on the election day and transform their loyalty and love for him into votes.
He said: “I encourage you to let this love and commitment resonate through your votes on November 16. This is the most powerful way to ensure our work continues.
“Your votes are essential to keep the progress going and to protect the future we are building together.
“Every single vote matters in securing a prosperous future for our region, where our shared vision for Ondo State can fully come to life.”
The Abodi of Ikale Land, Oba Alayeluwa George Babatunde Faduyile, Adegun II, who spoke on behalf of the monarchs in the local government area, appreciated the achievements of the Aiyedatiwa-led administration.
“We are blessed to have a leader like you. There is already a sense of peace and stability in the land,” Oba Faduyile said.
