A tragic stampede at the residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State, has left one person dead and six others injured.
Security sources confirmed the unfortunate incident to Zagazola Makama on Friday.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7:30 pm on Thursday, when a massive crowd reportedly converged to welcome the minister. What began as a routine reception quickly descended into panic as the crowd surged forward, triggering the fatal stampede.
Twenty-three-year-old Khalifa Uzairu was pronounced dead upon arrival at Farida General Hospital.
Those injured include: Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu, Inusa Musa Shehu.
All six victims were immediately transported to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
It was gathered that security operatives have cordoned off the area to restore order.
An investigation has been opened to determine what prompted the deadly stampede and whether negligence or crowd mismanagement played a role.
