Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command on Thursday neutralised one armed bandit in a gun duel, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds during an operation at Adekanbi Village near Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, saying the operatives acted on “actionable intelligence”.
“Acting on actionable intelligence on November 13, 2025, at about 10 am, police operatives and vigilante members executed a rapid tactical deployment to Adekanbi Village via Bode Saadu, where armed bandits were sighted occupying a fortified hill-top,” the statement said.
Adeyemi disclosed that the team met heavy resistance as the hoodlums opened fire on security personnel.
“On arrival, the hostile elements initiated gunfire, prompting a swift and superior counter-engagement by the security team. The overwhelming response forced the criminals to abandon their position with suspected gunshot injuries,” she added.
Naijaonpoint reports that following the exchange, the area was swept by operatives who discovered one dead suspect. A post-operation search led to the recovery of an AK-49 rifle and 32 rounds of live ammunition.
The police command assured residents that efforts to track down the fleeing suspects were ongoing, pledging that the fight against banditry in the state would be intensified.
It is worth noting that the Bode Saadu axis has witnessed increased surveillance in recent months due to reports of criminal encampments along its forested boundaries.
