After months of waiting, Samsung finally started rolling out the One UI 7 beta update a couple of days ago. Samsung has released the beta update first for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The update gives us a glimpse at what Samsung will offer in the latest One UI version. One of the most notable features of the One UI 7 update is a vertical app drawer.

One UI 7 beta update gives a glimpse at the new vertical app drawer

Samsung has always offered a horizontal layout for the app drawer on its devices. The company has inherently avoided a vertical app drawer since the early TouchWiz days. However, this is going to change with the latest version of One UI. One UI 7 is finally bringing a vertical app drawer. It will be a significant shift in the brand’s approach to UI design.

In the new layout, you can simply scroll down on a single page to access the apps on your devices. The new One UI version enables the new vertical drawer by default. However, fans of the older layout will be happy to know that they can still go back to the horizontal layout if they want to.

One UI 7 beta also brings a new position for the search bar and icon resizing

Apart from a new app drawer, the One UI 7 beta update also brings a new position for the search bar inside it. Prior to the update, it was placed on top of the screen, but the new version offers it at the bottom. Furthermore, you can now change the size of the app icons in the app drawer. Notably, you can also turn off app labels and turn on labels for widgets.

Lastly, you can adjust the layout of the home screen and app drawer. You can choose from four to five columns. Currently, only those enrolled in the beta program can access the new app drawer features. It will be available for all when Samsung rolls out the stable One UI 7 update. As of now, only the flagship Galaxy S24 series devices can enjoy these new features.
