On Wednesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company would be having 12 Days of OpenAI. This event would see 12 livestreams over 12 days where the company would clue us in on new stuff “big and small”. Well, on the first day of ChatGPT-mas, Sam Altman gave to us a new payment tier. OpenAI announced a new ChatGPT Pro tier, and it will set you back $200/month.
With 11 days to go, there’s no telling what else the company’s going to launch throughout this event. One thing we’re certain OpenAI will launch is Sora. This is the company’s to-be-released video generation platform. It was leaked not too long ago, and it allowed people to access it and generate videos. If OpenAI officially launches Sora during this event, then it would beat Google to the punch, as Veo is still in preview.
OpenAI announces a new ChatGPT Pro tier
Pretty much all AI platforms have some sort of subscription service. AI is expensive to develop, so no company is just giving it away for free. Right now, OpenAI has its ChatGPT Plus tier, which is its most basic paid plan. It costs $20/month, and it gives you access to most of the company’s most powerful models and access to new features. Along with that, there are the Team ($25/month) and Enterprise (depends on specific needs) plans.
Today, the company announced a new and vastly more expensive plan called ChatGPT Pro. This $200/month plan gives you access to all of the perks that you’d get with Plus, but it gives you access to the company’s most powerful model.
For a little more context, OpenAI released its model called o1 (codenamed “Strawberry”). It’s a powerful model with a focus on reasoning. o1 has been in preview since September, but now OpenAI is releasing the final version to ChatGPT Plus, Teams, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers. It will land for the latter two plans next week.
As a part of the announcement, OpenAI announced a model called o1 Pro. ChatGPT Pro will give you access to this model. This is the most powerful version of o1, as you can see in the graph below.
Just one day in, OpenAI is announcing some pretty major stuff. The 12 Days of OpenAI are just getting started, so stick around for more exciting announcements!
