Osun 2026: Accord clears Adeleke for governorship primary

Ademola Adeleke 2

The screening committee of the Accord Party has cleared Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to participate in the party’s governorship primary scheduled for today in Osogbo, the state capital.

In a statement, Ibe Thankgod, chairman of the screening committee and the party’s national organising secretary, announced that Adeleke emerged as the sole aspirant for the primary election.

He said the governor successfully fulfilled all requirements for nomination.

“The committee subsequently cleared Governor Adeleke as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket and concluded all required documentations with relevant bodies,” the statement reads.

Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to the governor, also confirmed the development to TheCable.

“He was cleared and presented with a certificate of clearance as the sole aspirant for the governorship ticket,” he said.

Rasheed added that the governor has assured the party of his readiness to “responsibly unfurl the party’s banner for victory in the 2026 polls”.

Adeleke officially joined Accord on Tuesday, days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said his decision was driven by the need to continue his administration’s “delivery of good governance and democratic dividends”, which he noted has received acclaim both locally and internationally.
