A young Nigerian man in Osun State has been sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl, according to a statement shared today by Governor Ademola Adeleke via his X account.
The governor announced that he has ordered an investigation into the case and granted the man a state pardon.
“I have received reports of a young man in Osun State reportedly sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl,” Adeleke stated.
“As a result, I have instructed the attorney general and commissioner for justice to launch a thorough investigation and initiate the process for granting a prerogative of mercy,” he added.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that Osun is a state founded on justice and equity, committed to ensuring fairness and safeguarding lives.
He assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency and given his personal attention.
