THE Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed any possibility of his political faction forming an alliance ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Speaking yesterday in Osogbo during a birthday reception hosted by the Omoluabi Progressives a political group he leads, Aregbesola firmly stated that his camp would independently pursue its ambitions in the next electoral cycle.
“By my next birthday, we will be much closer to the Governor’s Office in Abere. God willing, we are not aligning with anyone. There will be no coalition. We’ll contest independently and we’ll win,” Aregbesola told supporters gathered to celebrate his 68th birthday.
He also took a moment to highlight the importance of showing appreciation to mothers during birthday celebrations, citing the physical sacrifices of childbirth.
“Whether they are alive or not, our birthdays should be occasions to remember and pray for our mothers,” he urged.
Former Osun SSG, Moshood Adeoti, encouraged members of the Omoluabi Progressives to remain committed to the group’s values and mission.
Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke at the event, Commissioner Biyi Odunlade commended Aregbesola for laying the groundwork for good governance in the state. “Your legacy is remarkable and sets you apart,” he said.
The celebration drew a large turnout, including loyalists from Lagos and former state officials.
