The Accord family has alerted members and the public to developments surrounding a suit allegedly filed to stop the party’s primary election.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by Accord Weekly Magazine content writer, Oladele Taiwo.
Taiwo said the suit, filed in the name of one Oliver Bitrus, was questionable as the individual’s membership could not be verified in the party’s official records.
He noted that the counsel representing the matter, Barrister Daniel Edeachi, had reportedly begun moves to withdraw the case following scrutiny over its credibility.
Taiwo stated that the suit was discovered to be based on misleading claims, including assertions of an alternative faction in Accord and a false claim that Chief Okey Nwosu held a national leadership position, all of which were unsupported by INEC records.
He added that the party considered disciplinary action against the counsel for filing a suit built on questionable grounds, a development believed to have prompted the lawyer’s attempt to withdraw.
Taiwo affirmed that despite the distraction, Accord remains focused on concluding its gubernatorial nomination process transparently and without obstruction.
The statement reads, “The Accord family wishes to bring to the attention of its members and the general public the latest developments surrounding a suit allegedly filed to halt the party’s forthcoming primary election. The suit was instituted in the name of one Oliver Bitrus, an individual whose membership status in Accord remains unverified and cannot be authenticated through official party records.
“In a surprising turn of events, the representing counsel, Barrister Daniel Edeachi, has reportedly initiated steps to withdraw the matter from court. This move comes amid growing scrutiny over the credibility and foundation of the case.
“Initial review of the suit revealed that it was premised on claims that lacked legal and factual basis. Notably, there is no existing judgment from any competent court recognizing an alternative faction within Accord or affirming the claim that Chief Okey Nwosu occupies the position of Deputy National Chairman of the party.
“These assertions, which formed the core of the suit, were discovered to be misleading and unsupported by official party documents or judicial pronouncements. Records with INEC show that ACCORD has no leadership crisis at any level and that there are no factions at all within the party. The inability to verify these claims raised serious concerns about the intent and authenticity behind the litigation.
“These concerns necessitated the action by the ACCORD party to initiate a professional misconduct action against the counsel for filing a suit built on such questionable grounds. Party officials formally indicated their readiness to escalate the matter to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) should the irregularities persist.
“The potential of disciplinary action, particularly in relation to filing what appears to be a frivolous or fabricated suit, is believed to have influenced the lawyer’s attempt to quietly withdraw from the matter. This sudden retreat suggests an acknowledgment of the suit’s obvious defects.
“With the counsel now distancing himself from the case, the suit stands exposed as a baseless an attempt to stir unnecessary crisis within the Accord family. It reflects an orchestrated plan by certain political actors in the Osun APC to derail internal processes of other parties through deception and confusion.
“Despite these distractions, Accord remains fully committed to finalizing the ongoing process of nominating its candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. The party will not be distracted by individuals who are bent on creating obstacles or undermining its internal democratic procedures.
“The party leadership reassures members, stakeholders, supporters and the general public that the nomination process continues to run smoothly and transparently. Accord is determined to deliver a credible and lawful pathway to selecting its flag bearer.
“In reaffirming its focus and unity, Accord reiterates its commitment to due process, internal cohesion, and the protection of the integrity of both its legal and electoral systems. The party remains resolute and undistracted as it advances toward its next critical phase.”
