The Osun State Attorney-General has approached the High Court seeking an order compelling police to investigate alleged threats against Accord Party members.
The suit targets the Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police, while Senator Francis Fadahunsi is listed as an interested party.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, had allegedly called on supporters of the All Progressives Congress to kill Accord members during the election period.
He later explained that the controversial remark was not a literal call for violence, but a political expression urging his supporters to defeat Accord at the polls.
The senator has also honoured a police invitation over the statement and was subsequently granted administrative bail.
In the suit, the state government wants the police to conduct a full investigation into the alleged inciting remarks and establish whether they constitute criminal offences under applicable laws.
It is also asking the court to compel the police to obtain and preserve the complete video recording containing the disputed comments.
The government wants the footage subjected to forensic examination to establish its authenticity and determine the circumstances surrounding its recording and circulation.
Beyond investigating the senator, the Attorney-General is seeking preventive security measures to protect Accord members, electoral officials, supporters and voters who may face threats linked to the controversy.
The suit also asks the police to investigate reports that the alleged comments included threats against Accord members, their families and supporters.
According to the Attorney-General, such statements could undermine public safety, peaceful campaigning and the ability of voters to exercise their rights freely.
The case was filed at the Osun State High Court in Osogbo on Wednesday.
It followed a police invitation issued to Fadahunsi in a letter dated August 11, 2026, requesting that he clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks allegedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa.
The legal action now places the police response to the controversy under judicial scrutiny as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election.
