Violence has claimed another life in Osun State just hours before Saturday’s governorship election.

A member of the Accord Party was allegedly hunted down and killed by suspected thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress early Friday morning. The attack happened around 6 a.m. in the Omi Eran Atijo community.

Local sources say the man was pursued through the area before the attackers caught up with him and fatally assaulted him. His body was later found in a drainage channel, lying in a pool of blood.

A video circulating among residents shows the lifeless figure in the open drainage.

The killing has deepened fears among residents already worried about political tension.

Many in the community accuse security personnel stationed nearby of failing to act despite earlier warnings of possible violence involving suspected APC-aligned groups.

“People are scared to move around,” one resident said. “We reported the threats, but nothing was done. Now someone is dead.”

A relative of the victim described the loss as crushing.

“He was a family man with a wife and children. This has shattered us. He did not deserve to die like that,” the relative said.

Opposition supporters in the area say the incident has left them anxious about casting their votes.

They claim the presence of security forces has not translated into real protection.

Community voices are calling on security agencies to launch a full investigation, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice without delay.

They also want increased patrols across Omi Eran Atijo and other flashpoint communities before polls open.

The attack adds to growing concerns that political violence could disrupt the Osun governorship election.

Residents and party supporters are urging authorities to take immediate steps to calm the situation and safeguard voters.
