THE Governor of Oyo State ‘Seyi Makinde, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against disrupting democracy by resorting to self-help in Osun State’s local government administration.
Speaking yesterday during the swearing-in of 30 newly elected local government chairmen in Osun State, Makinde urged the APC not to misuse federal influence to obstruct democratic processes.
“Recently, we convened in Lagos for the South-West Governors’ Forum meeting, which included both PDP and APC governors. We united to address common regional challenges, expecting support at all levels because governance is about delivering results to the people.
“When violent incidents in Osun escalated to the point of loss of lives, we felt the need to step in and issue a warning. History has shown us the consequences of instability in the South-West, once labeled the ‘Wild Wild West.’ We must prevent a repeat of that era.
“Our focus is on peacefully delivering democracy’s benefits. No one should resort to self-help. Even with a court ruling, due process must be followed. Federal influence should not be a tool for disrupting established procedures—this is a federal system,” Makinde stated.
Makinde attended the event to support Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke alongside the PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
During the ceremony, Makinde congratulated the newly elected chairmen, urging them to fulfill their campaign promises and serve the people effectively.
“I congratulate all the newly elected chairpersons of Osun State’s 30 local governments. Stay true to your campaign promises—this is your chance to make a difference at the grassroots level. With the support of your governor and state government, I believe you will succeed.
“For some, this role will be a stepping stone to greater opportunities because hard work always leads to more responsibilities,” he added.

The elections were marked by controversy, with the PDP securing all chairmanship seats while the APC dismissed the exercise. Security concerns and legal objections had been raised by the police and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, who advised against proceeding with the polls. However, Governor Adeleke remained resolute, stating on Friday that the election would proceed as planned.
