The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Electoral Committee for Osun State, Sunday Solarin, has clarified why Governor Ademola Adeleke’s name appeared on the ballot for Tuesday’s governorship primary despite his recent resignation from the party.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo, Solarin explained that Adeleke communicated his exit late Monday night, after ballot papers had already been printed and distributed for the exercise.
“There are two names on the ballot, but one of them (Governor Ademola Adeleke) resigned from the party very late on Monday. By that time, it was impossible to make any changes to the ballot,” he said.
He stressed that, in practical terms, only Adebayo Adedamola is recognized as the PDP’s legitimate aspirant in the primary.
“As delegates cast their votes, they should note that Adebayo Adedamola is the sole valid aspirant, since his opponent has withdrawn from the party,” Solarin added.
Voting had ended as of the time of filing this report, with officials already collating results ahead of the official declaration.
