Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, of using the EFCC to freeze the state government’s account for political reasons.
Adeleke alleged that Oyetola invoked President Bola Tinubu’s name while pushing the anti-graft agency to take action against his administration.
He claimed the former governor told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that Tinubu had ordered the freezing of Osun’s account.
According to Adeleke, the development created tension within the state government until Tinubu personally contacted him over the matter.
“The President told me he was embarrassed by what happened and made it clear that such action was unacceptable,” Adeleke said.
The governor said Tinubu also assured him of his commitment to a free and fair governorship election in Osun.
Adeleke further accused Oyetola, who currently serves as Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, of using his relationship with the President to advance his political interests in the state.
He alleged that his predecessor had yet to accept his defeat in the previous governorship election and was still pursuing political avenues to regain control of Osun.
“I believe the issue was politically motivated because there is still an unresolved feeling about the outcome of the last election,” Adeleke said.
The governor made the allegations on Tuesday while appearing on the Arise TV Town Hall programme ahead of the Osun governorship election.
Adeleke is seeking another four-year term in the August 15, 2026, election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Oyetola and the EFCC had not, at the time of filing this report, publicly responded to Adeleke’s allegations.
