Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has launched a blistering attack on Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Akinola labeled the singer’s recent social media outburst against the Minister as irresponsible and uncouth, describing it as a textbook display of a lack of home training.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Akinola dismissed the singer’s online commentary and warned that no amount of digital hysteria would save his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, from a crushing defeat in the upcoming August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
While acknowledging that every citizen has a right to freedom of expression, Akinola noted that it was deeply embarrassing for a public figure of Davido’s stature to abandon fundamental Yoruba values of respect for elders to play the role of an online attack dog.
“Davido’s freedom of speech is not a license for inherited arrogance,” Akinola said.
He added that hurling childish insults at a statesman old enough to be the singer’s father does not make him look tough; rather, it proves he lacks the character and decorum expected of someone with his platform.
The statement continued, “While every Nigerian has the right to a political opinion and free expression, it is disgraceful that a public figure of Davido’s stature would resort to crude insults and juvenile theatrics against a statesman old enough to be his father. In Yoruba culture, respect for elders is not optional; it is a fundamental value. Well-brought-up Yoruba sons do not insult their elders on social media because of partisan excitement or family political interests.”
Contrasting Oyetola’s track record of dignity and prudence with what he described as the clownish distractions of the Adeleke camp, Akinola insisted that Oyetola’s legacy in Osun and his current federal assignment speak for themselves.
He argued that the Minister’s achievements require no validation from social media theatrics or pop-star tantrums.
Akinola emphasized that Dr. Oyetola has served Osun State and Nigeria with dignity, restraint, competence and an unblemished record of public service both as a former governor and in his current role as a federal minister.
“Unlike those addicted to social media drama and attention-seeking outbursts, His Excellency Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola’s record of service, performance, and integrity speaks loudly for him. He does not need validation from celebrity noisemakers or political entertainers seeking relevance through insults,” Akinola stated.
The aide further asserted that resorting to cheap insults is the last refuge of a panicked campaign, adding that the electorate in Osun State is tired of emotional outbursts and celebrity side-shows, demanding actual governance instead.
With the governorship election less than three months away, Akinola noted that the countdown to August 15 is ticking.
He declared that no amount of lies, propaganda, or online hostility can distract the public from what he termed a three-and-a-half-year reign of poor governance, economic stagnation, and glaring administrative incompetence under the current administration.
Concluding the statement, Akinola made it clear that the Minister is far too busy driving national economic growth and securing Nigeria’s maritime future to engage in social media disputes.
He noted that Oyetola will happily leave the tantrums on X (formerly Twitter) to Davido, while leaving the actual politics to the voters of Osun State.
