Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of David Aderemi Okediji as the Chairman of the Oyo State Audit Service Commission and Olufemi Ebenezer Olanrewaju as Special Assistant on Liaison Office (Lagos).
Naijaonpoint reports that the appointments were announced in a letter issued on Tuesday, January 20, and signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi.
According to the letter, Governor Makinde urged the newly appointed officials to discharge their duties with a high sense of responsibility and unwavering dedication to the service of the state.
The governor specifically charged them to carry out their responsibilities with utmost commitment, loyalty and dedication, in line with his administration’s vision for transparency, accountability and effective governance.
The letter further disclosed the effective dates of the appointments.
It stated that the appointment of Okediji as Chairman of the Oyo State Audit Service Commission takes effect from January 15, 2026, while that of Olanrewaju as Special Assistant on Liaison Office (Lagos) will commence from January 20, 2026.
The latest appointments are part of ongoing efforts by the Makinde administration to strengthen public institutions and improve coordination between Oyo State and its liaison offices outside the state.
In another news earlier, the Human and Environmental Development Agenda petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged diversion, misapplication and criminal breach of trust involving the ₦30 billion released by the Federal Government to the Oyo State Government following the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.
Naijaonpoint reports that the petition, dated January 5, 2026, was signed by the Chairman of HEDA, Olanrewaju Suraju, and addressed to the Chairman of the EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede.
HEDA queried the status and utilisation of the ₦30 billion released for compensation of victims, reconstruction of the affected Bodija area and emergency relief.
The group expressed concern that only about ₦4.5bn was reportedly applied to relief and compensation, while the remaining funds were allegedly unaccounted for.
“The organisation is concerned that only about ₦4.5bn intervention funds were reportedly applied to relief and compensation for victims, while the entire ₦30bn remains largely unaccounted for,” the petition read.
Naijaonpoint reports that the petition followed public controversy sparked by a former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, who, during a national television interview, alleged that the Federal Government released ₦50 billion to the Oyo State Government for the explosion victims and reconstruction of Old Bodija.
Reacting to the claim, the Oyo State Government acknowledged receipt of federal funds but clarified that it received ₦30bn, not ₦50bn, and that the money remained untouched pending the release of the balance of ₦20bn.
Following the disclosure, victims of the explosion demanded the immediate release of the ₦30 billion to complement earlier compensation, which they described as inadequate.
