A former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, amid the worsening internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has hinted at a possible defection, declaring that he may soon dump the party if its troubles remain unresolved.
Suswam, who served as a two-term governor and later as senator, made the revelation on Wednesday while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.
The former governor lamented the PDP’s protracted internal wranglings and declared that he is now weighing his options.
Suswam, when asked if he was planning to leave the party, responded, “There’s a possibility that I will,”
He added that he could move to any alternative party, including the Labour Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), adding that Kwankwaso is a colleague and a friend.
When pressed further, Suswam said even the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not out of the question. “APC can be an alternative,” he added.
Naijaonpoint reports that Suswam’s remarks come against the backdrop of a fresh wave of infighting within the PDP following the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
The decision, announced by Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has sparked outrage among members of the National Working Committee (NWC), who accused Damagum of taking unilateral actions that undermine the party’s constitutionally recognised structures.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NWC said Damagum’s actions “constitute a breach of trust” and may worsen the instability plaguing the party.
The development adds to the PDP’s long-standing leadership crisis, with key stakeholders sharply divided over party direction, succession politics, and internal democracy.
